On 10 March 2018 we held our fifth Founder’s Day celebration as a Society.  This year the event was a luncheon at the Surf Club on Wrightsville Beach, and dress was informal.  Upon entering each member and guest was given the biography of a famous (or infamous) graduate and assigned to the appropriate period table.  I think we all learned something new about our academy and some of the people who have graduated from it.  COL(R) Joe Rogers delivered part 2 of his “oldest grad” talk from last year, in which he recounted his path to the academy from his childhood home in Leavenworth, Kansas.  Our guest speaker was LTG (Ret) Dell Dailey (’71), Distinguished Chair at the United States Military Academy's Combating Terror Center.

On 18 March we held our annual Founder's Day celebration at the Cape Fear Country Club.  Our guest speaker was COL Barry Shoop, Professor and Head of the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department at USMA.  We were entertained by “Oldest Grad” COL(R) Joe Rogers (’51) who gave an amusing talk about the role of his wife, Jean, during their journey through the Army together.  Our Youngest Grad was 1LT Chris Posadas (’13), who spoke about some of the tough choices that he had to make during his early career as a Marine, doing his alma mater proud.  Rick deMoya (’71), who leads the local USMA admission field force, introduced our two local rising cadets Matt Caropolo and Chloe Deets, Class of 2021.
